Govenor Paterson awards $3.3 million for El Camino Estates

After three years of planning and patience, IADC is more than ready for the stimulus funding publicly announced on August 18 during a press conference held at Avenue D Recreation Center arranged by Governor David Paterson's office and other housing officials.
“We want to take a challenged neighborhood and make it better,” said Eugenio Marlin, IADC president and CEO, referencing the 25-home project. Developed by Cornerstone Group Ltd., the 25 three- to five-bedroom homes will be strategically located in the northeast corridor to enhance Nielson and Woodford streets, and strengthen the Conkey and Avenue B neighborhoods.
Govenor David Paterson said it this way: “This is as good as it gets when it comes to designating stimulus money.” Demonstrating his affinity for the community as well as the impact of the project, Governor Paterson said: “El Camino, meaning the road in Spanish, is the way that we will get back to recovery in this country. With short steps; but many steps just like this,” he affirmed.
Mayor Robert Duffy, an El Camino supporter to the tune of $435,000 in city funding, is pleased to see this project move forward. He anticipates not only solid housing, but also jobs, neighborhood revitalization, and an expanded tax base for the city.
